I would love to compost your kitchen scraps. When meals are prepared, kitchen food scraps show up. Common examples of food scraps are fruit and vegetable bits, coffee grounds, and eggshells. Kitchen food scraps are a big environmental problem. When placed in the trash, they end up at the dump... on the ground... rotting ... and converting into methane... This is the claim one of our daughters presented recently. I checked it out online because the amount of scraps seems so small in our kitchen. The sources I looked at say yes, huge problem. The picture to the left shows our food scrap container. The lid is on to keep flies out. INVITATION: I would so very much love to get your food scraps. We are now bringing a container each Sunday to the Murrieta Farmers Market to collect donated scraps. We will compost them and use the compost in our vegetable plots. In our first week of scrap-hoarding in our kitchen we found...first, it's hard to remember there is a can to fill. Second, a smell developed. (I can't smell because of long ago chemotherapy, but Janet can.) The container ended up outside. ..Container is inside. The smell was egg yoke. I need to work harder on this. I'm going to do better this coming week. Below are common items that can be collected and composted:
