September 7-Below is a picture of ripe jujube fruit from our Lane trees (We also have Li trees... which are harvested a little bit later.) The fruit in this picture was picked this morning for tomorrow's Sunday farmers market. We have been growing and grafting our trees for two year. This is the first year that we have surplus fruit to market.
Jujubes are used primarily either fresh or dried as dates. Some of the more mature fruit we bring to market is working towards becoming a date.
A fuller understanding of this fruit can be had by looking at the online article written by SaVanna Shoemaker and Sarah Matysiak, titled "What Is Jujube Fruit? Nutrition, Benefits, and Uses."
I love jujubes and carry them in my pocket for eating throughout the day.
